£95.00

A copper-alloy Viking stirrup mount in excellent condition, dating to the first half of the 11th Century. This mount would have adorned the apex of the stirrup, protecting the leather stirrup strap on a Viking warrior's horse. Williams's Class A Type 12 with lozengiform body pierced to form a lattice with knops at the nodes, loop above, ledge to the reverse. The front surface has been decorated with linear patterns of punched dots. A wonderful relic of this turbulent period of British history.
