A scarce and sharply struck penny of Edward I, minted in London circa 1279. A toned example, struck on a large flan, with a detailed idealised facing portrait of the monarch, highly evocative of the period. A wonderful little piece of medieval English history. A similar example made £420 before fees at the recent DNW auction on the 7th Sep 2021.
