£175.00

Obverse: L AELIVS CAESAR, Bare head of Aelius facing right.

Reverse: TR POT COS II S C, Spes advancing left, holding flower and lifting skirt.

RIC: 1067. Sear: 3993. BMCRE: 1931. [Rome, AD 137].

Diameter: 26 mm. Weight: 10.5 g.

A very fine copper As of Aelius Caesar, favourite of the emperor Hadrian, who adopted Aelius as his chosen heir in AD 137. Unfortunately, Aelius died shortly afterwards, though his son would later become the emperor Lucius Verus. A well struck example with clear details and a muted copper patina.
